Abuja, Nigeria – November 1, 2025
The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Geneva Africa Headquarters and the Community Network Against Substance Abuse Initiative (CONASAI) today marked a significant milestone in the fight against illicit drug use amongst youths. In a joint international press presentation, the two organizations unveiled the marshals who will operate the #Anti-narcotics War in different communities under the first phase of the campaign.
The event, which held in Abuja, was attended by key stakeholders and authorities from the Nigerian government, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). The participants were called upon to grant goodwill messages, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in combating drug use.
The IHRC Geneva Africa HQ described the event as a great experience for partnership with bilateral agencies and highlighted the new call by the Nigerian government for civil society and intergovernmental organizations to network with government authorities to reduce the incidence of youths taking to drugs and enhancers.
Amb Dr Tivlumun Innocent Ahure, IHRC Geneva Head of Delegation for Africa, noted that drugs and substance use is closely related to delinquency and crimes. “We are committed to working with all stakeholders to address this menace and ensure a safer future for our youths,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the conferment of awards on individuals who have made enviable contributions to the fight against drugs smuggling and trafficking.
The IHRC Geneva Africa HQ and CONASAI are confident that this initiative will yield positive results and make a significant impact in reducing illicit drug use amongst youths in our communities.
