The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Geneva has raised serious concerns about the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a statement, IHRC Geneva described Kanu’s travails as a matter that warrants granting him bail.
The IHRC Geneva has condemned the Nigerian government’s actions, citing wrongful arrests and illegal detention as a serious breach of human rights. Kanu’s continued detention is seen as a stain on Nigeria’s conscience and a challenge to the rule of law.
Notably, the Supreme Court had ruled that Kanu’s bail revocation was wrong, and he should be released. However, despite this ruling, Kanu remains in detention.
The IHRC Geneva demands that the Nigerian government either release Kanu immediately or prosecute him due to his deteriorating health. This development highlights the need for Nigeria to uphold its international human rights obligations and respect the rule of law.
