The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Geneva has announced that His Excellency Umar Namadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Nigeria, has been awarded the prestigious Order of the Pride of Africa 2025 and the Nelson Mandela Medal for a Long Walk to Freedom.
Governor Namadi’s exceptional humanitarian leadership, commitment to empowering the poor, and promoting social welfare have earned him this international recognition. A 5-month survey study by IHRC Geneva’s subregional panels across Africa rated Governor Namadi highest in humanitarian leadership.
Governor Namadi’s initiatives have improved the lives of countless individuals and families in Jigawa State through empowerment programs and humanitarian relief efforts. His government’s empowerment programs have enabled many people to start their own businesses, increasing their income and improving economic stability. Governor Namadi’s commitment to promoting social welfare offers a model for other leaders to follow, focusing on vulnerable members of society, including women, children, and people with disabilities.
The IHRC Geneva’s independent panelists highly recommended Governor Namadi after scrutinizing Jigawa State projects and evaluating humanitarian services and their impact on the people.
